The BBC Trust might have said no apps for the Beeb in the UK on the iPhone, but that hasn't stopped the corporation's worldwide commercial arm launching a dedicated BBC iPad app in the US following the launch of the internet tablet at the weekend.
The BBC News app, which the Beeb has confirmed to Pocket-lint will not be currently launching in the UK, will let users "Get the latest, breaking news from the BBC and our global network of journalists", reads the blurb on the iTunes page.
Users who decide to download the free app, which will have advertising within, will be able to view stories by geographical region or category like business, technology, entertainment and sport.
If that wasn't enough to get the American's giddy with excitement at getting their hands on news that Brits have paid for, they'll also get 1-minute video news summaries to keep them informed and download content for offline browsing.
Finally you'll be able to get the news in Spanish, Russian and Arabic.
In related news, The Guardian has launched its first iPad app too. Called the Guardian Eyewitness app, the new free app will show the daily centre spread photo found in the newspaper every day.
