Apple sells over 300,000 iPads on day one

Apple has released a statement with the final figures of the first day of iPad sales and it seems the Cupertino company shifted over 300,000 units. To put that in perspective, it's 30,000 more than the iPhone sold over the same period.

Despite the figure being hugely impressive, it's a long way short of the 700,000 predicted sales as forecast by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster. All the same, The Jobs was pleased as the pads also heralded over 1 million app downloads and 250,000 ebooks. He said:

"It feels great to have the iPad launched into the world - it's going to be a game changer. iPad users, on average, downloaded more than three apps and close to one book within hours of unpacking their new iPad".

Presumably this is not a reference to poor download speeds, but with the apparent Wi-Fi issues for some customers, you never know.
