Netflix is to add support for the Nintendo Wii in the US, allowing owners of the games console to access movies and TV shows from the service without having to wait for a disc in the post.

"We are in the final phase of getting ready for the launch of streaming to Wii", Netflix confirmed on the company blog on Thursday.

Subscribers to the Netflix unlimited plan, starting at $8.99 a month, will be available soon at no additional cost, the company has confirmed, with customers only needing a Nintendo Wii and a broadband connection to take Netflix up on the offer.

Users wanting to use the new service need to request an instant streaming disc for the Wii from the company.
