Rupert Murdoch adds comment to format war

"The public is going to want Blu-ray"

Media magnate Rupert Murdoch has voiced "surprisingly strong endorsements" to the Blu-ray format in front of a group of Goldman Sachs Wall Street business people.

Saying: "Paramount switched out the other day. God knows why", in reference to the recent HD DVD-only announcement from the studio, Murdoch went on to state that he did know - they had received a $100 million payout.

Variety reports that Murdoch stated: "The public is going to want Blu-ray. The public can tell the difference."

It should be noted that reports put Murdoch speaking in conjunction with Robert Iger - Disney President and CEO.

Iger showed unsurprising confidence in the format Disney back: "It's disappointing that the industry hasn't managed to be cohesive. I think it's a foregone conclusion about which will win".
