Philips is throwing everything at the Fidelio DS9000 iPod dock with the intention of taking on the likes of the Zeppelin. It's already been cleared for some shelf space in the Apple store and, if you were in any doubt of the premium positioning, then the May launch price of 499 euros should put you in the picture.
For the money, you're getting audiophile level drivers and a lovely smooth wooden cabinet combined with a metal honeycomb on the inside. From our hands on, it certainly has all the hallmarks of a quality product and will doubtless do well so long as docks are popular.
If you can't afford the DS9000 then there are lower-priced models in the range, both size, speaker quality and materials too. The simple round-based dock clock, for example, will come in at just 79 euros. Something for everyone looks to be the strategy.
