In Barcelona, Philips has announced the Immersive Sound home theatre system. It comprises of five satellites, a subwoofer, and a base unit. But more unusually, each of those satellites contains three speakers - one pointed forwards, and two angled to the left and to the right.
The effect of this "tri-pole" audio setup? 360-degree sound all around you, coming from 16 speakers (if you include the subwoofer). The base unit also integrates a Blu-ray/DVD player, and has DLNA functionality that lets you stream content from your PC. It works with Philips' Net TV service, too.
It has Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD audio, and the rear speakers come with stands. It has an aluminium finish, and will only consume 0.3W of power when in standby mode. It comes in recycled packaging. No word on how much it'll cost, or when it'll be available, but as soon as we hear anything we'll let you know.
