Macbooks getting Optimus dual graphics too?
Nvidia's Optimus graphics may well be showing up in the next generation of the Apple Macbook Pro, if rumours prove accurate. The technology allows a laptop to automatically switch between integrated and discrete graphics, offering power when it's needed and more battery life when it isn't.
The existing Macbook Pro graphics setup requires users to switch on and off the 9600M GT processor in a settings menu, and then log out and back in for the change to take effect. That's not the most user-friendly solution, so it wouldn't be surprising if Apple decided it wanted a piece of Nvidia's currently Windows-only solution.
No doubt the two companies are working together, with typical Apple secrecy, behind closed doors to solve the software issues that are in the way. Neither Nvidia or Apple have commented on the situation, but we wouldn't be at all surprised if Optimus arrives in the next round of Macbook Pros.
