Facebook offers £125,000 cash for apps

Mark Zuckerberg launches "fbFund"

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has offered software developers a cash prize of up to $250,000 to develop applications for the site.

Announced at the TechCrunch40 conference in San Francisco, Zuckerberg wants people to create "innovative and disruptive programs".

Zuckerberg said the new scheme, the "fbFund" will help Facebook to continue to grow: "We're doing this at Facebook to support the ecosystem and help it grow".

"Any application developer can submit their application and a little business proposal to us", said Zuckerberg. "If we think the project is good we will give a grant for somewhere between $25,000 to $250,000."
