iSlate iPhone app casts doubt on Apple tablet name
Further to our recent speculation over what Apple will call its rumoured, but almost certainly incoming tablet device, it's been revealed there's an iPhone app called "iSlate" bringing into doubt one of the potential monikers.
Spotted by Mobile Entertainment, the iSlate app is a £1.79 offering that provides users with a portable digital clapper board and has been available in the App Store since November 2008.
The iTunes blurb for the app reads: "iSlate is an easy to use portable digital clapper board that can help video enthusiasts add a touch of Hollywood magic to their videos".
The fact that the app is still available under the "iSlate" name casts doubt on whether Apple plans to use this term for its new tablet device as logic suggests with the launch just days away, Apple would have already moved to ask the developer to rename the widget.
We got in touch with the team behind iSlate to see if they'd had any contact from Apple as regards renaming the app and our enquiry was met with a "nope", so it seems Apple is not acting over-protectively towards the iSlate name.
Meanwhile, it's being reported that bookies Paddy Power are offering odds on the name of the new device, with iSlate at 4/5, iPad at 7/4 and iCan't believe it's not a newspaper at 100/1.
