France Telecom boss confirms Apple tablet with a "oui"

The existence and imminent launch of the much-rumoured Apple tablet appears to have been confirmed with a "oui" from a France Telecom exec, according to just-in reports.

The caught-on-camera snippet between a French journo and Stephane Richard, deputy CEO at France Telecom, translates from French into the exchange below, which does indeed appear to leave little doubt the iTablet is incoming.

Jean-Pierre Elkabbach: According to weekly Le Point, in a couple of days Apple will be launching its tablet computer …
Stephane Richard: Yes.
Jean-Pierre Elkabbach: … equipped with a webcam.
Stephane Richard: Yes.
Jean-Pierre Elkabbach: Are Orange customers going to be able to enjoy it?
Stephane Richard: Of course!

France Telecom is Orange's parent company and the news that Orange customers will be able to "enjoy" the as-yet-unconfirmed device suggests at least one version will get a 3G modem and be offered in a similar way the iPhone is, through operators.

Apple is expected to hold a media event later in January to announce the device, although officially, nothing has been confirmed. We will keep you posted.

UPDATE: Orange has denied confirmation of the tablet, stating Richard's comments were taken  out of context.
