Comment: Fujifilm today has announced three new cameras in its digital camera line up - an entry level that looks to replace the A204, a 10x optical zoom - the S5000 and a 12 mega pixel beast, the S7000. Prices have yet to be confirmed, but its clear that fujifilm are gunning at three different sectors of the market place. Of course this is all well and good, but when it comes down to it, price will play an important factor and something for now that Fuji is keeping a closely guarded secret.Take your first digital steps with Fujifilm's FinePix A205S Zoom
Fujifilm today announced the arrival of the FinePix A205S Zoom. As easy to use as your TV remote, and with the same point and shoot simplicity, this camera will tame even the most timid technophobe.
Equipped with a 3x Fujinon optical zoom lens, 2 million pixel CCD, Video Out socket, increased battery life and smart Fujifilm design, the FinePix A205S Zoom delivers high quality images without the need to frown over an instruction booklet.
Small buttons and long menus can be intimidating to first timers, but the FinePix A205S Zoom is easier to handle with its larger buttons and a simple layout, making camera navigation child's play.
As a 2 million pixel camera, the FinePix A205S Zoom's images are a manageable size. Sending and storing your shots is therefore a much snappier process, whilst the picture quality will have you thinking that a higher spec camera is lurking beneath its simple exterior.
Imagine you don't have a PC. The Video Out socket connects the camera to your television, et voila - your own private slide show! The pictures can then easily be turned into prints with Fujifilm's high street photo printing service, FDi.
The cherry on the cake is the 3x Fujinon lens, providing an optical reach that lets you zoom in and automatically gives you crisp image quality.
Fujifilm's low battery consumption is an added bonus, saving you money on batteries and letting you enjoy taking pictures for even longer.
FinePix A205S Zoom features at a glance:
• 3 x Fujinon lens (36 - 108mm equivalent)
• 2 million pixel CCD (1600 x 1200 effective image)
• Video Out socket, enabling non-computer users to review shots on the television
• Highly efficient energy consumption
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Consumer Products, commented, “This camera is the embodiment of 'keep it simple'. It's not intended to set the world alight with obscure technologies or features - instead it will enthuse people with its total accessibility.”
Long lasting battery life
The FinePix A205S Zoom has been specifically developed to reduce power consumption. The two AA alkaline batteries supplied with the camera deliver an impressive 300 shots under normal conditions (with the LCD monitor switched off). Ni-MH rechargeable batteries are also available as part of the accessories range for even better battery economy.
Straight from the box
The FinePix A205S Zoom is supplied with everything needed to start shooting straight from the box. A full range of accessories including two AA alkaline batteries, 16MB xD-Picture Card™, hand strap, software CD-ROM, video cable, cradle adapter for FinePix A205S and USB cable are bundled with the camera. The supplied software CD includes USB drivers, Fujifilm's FinePix Viewer 4.0 for image browsing, and ImageMixer VCD for creating multimedia albums.
Pricing and availability
The FinePix A205S Zoom will be available from photographic and electrical retailers in September 2003 at a price that will be finalised closer to the retail launch.
Fujifilm launches its first digital camera with 10x optical zoom
Fujifilm today announced the FinePix S5000 Zoom, a high specification, compact and affordable digital camera with an awesome 10x optical zoom Fujinon lens.
This neat, SLR-style camera will satisfy the most ambitious photography enthusiast's appetite by enabling them to capture close-up, pin-sharp distant subjects. Unlike the multitude of silver-bodied compacts on the market, the designers of this camera did not focus their thoughts on the interior of a handbag or shirt pocket when they conceived the FinePix S5000 Zoom. Nothing has been compromised in the pursuit of optical and imaging excellence - in fact, despite its ultra-compact dimensions, the FinePix S5000 Zoom will spend little time in any bag.
Take it on safari and the10x zoom will truly encapsulate the detail of Serengeti life. The FinePix S5000 Zoom's capacity for continuous shooting also guarantees you can track classic sporting moments frame by frame. It even achieves sharp focus on moving subjects, so memories of sporting events will no longer be ruined by far-off, blurry action shots.
In addition to the spectacular zoom lens, the FinePix S5000 Zoom also boasts Fujifilm's Super CCD HR technology, ensuring images are clearer and sharper than cameras with a traditional CCD. Refined in-camera signal processing has taken Super CCD HR's performance to a new level of sharpness and image purity. What's more, the resulting 3.1 million effective and 6 million recorded pixels can be stored exactly as they were recorded, using the camera's RAW mode.
There are other 10x optical zoom cameras available, but no other camera can boast the photographic achievement of packing such a powerful sensor and optical zoom into such a compact body. The FinePix S5000 Zoom's 10x zoom lens is a real feat of optical engineering, and will quickly lay bare the limitations of the widely-misunderstood ‘digital' zoom.
With low power consumption - just one of the benefits offered by the xD-Picture Card™ system - and spot metering to capture complex image tones accurately, the FinePix S5000 Zoom is a technical all-rounder with a lens that excels.
The FinePix S5000 Zoom looks like an SLR, weighs the same as a compact camera and handles like a dream. Give it the chance to perform, and this product will really show its worth. So take it out there, and let its actions speak for themselves.
FinePix S5000 Zoom: features at a glance
• Fujinon 10x optical zoom lens equivalent to 37-370mm on a 35mm camera
• Compact, SLR-style body shape to give you features and performance without the bulk
• Fourth Generation Super CCD HR sensor with 3.1 million effective pixels, delivering 6 million recorded pixels
• QVGA movie capture at 30 frames per second (fps) with sound
• High sensitivity settings (up to ISO 800) to allow photography in a wide range of situations, including low light without flash
• Improved autofocus for faster shooting response
• xD-Picture Card™ providing large storage capacity, low power consumption and fast write speed (512MB card now available)
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Consumer Products, commented, “This is like an SLR's little brother - with all the enthusiast attitude, but less of the cost and complexity. Photography fans awaiting a truly compact digital camera capable of 10x zoom will be genuinely excited by the FinePix S5000 Zoom.”

Fujifilm launches first Super CCD HR digital camera with
12 million pixel image output
Fujifilm today announced the FinePix S7000 Zoom, and with it the most heavyweight imaging capability ever seen in a ‘prosumer' camera. Building on the success and with all the features of the FinePix S602 Zoom - including full manual control and 6x optical zoom - the FinePix S7000 Zoom's Super CCD HR sensor produces an exceptional 6 million effective pixel (12 million recorded pixel) output.
Even before Fujifilm's Super CCD signal processing technology takes control of the image, photographs taken with this camera will possess a class-leading 6 million pixels. After the Super CCD HR has processed the file, the image output is an impressive 12 million pixels - allowing the user to enlarge to 10” x 15”, representing gallery-size print dimensions.
This camera offers a serious digital alternative to a film SLR. A compact and ergonomic tool for professional photographers, the FinePix S7000 Zoom also represents an irresistible package for the ambitiously minded newcomer to digital photography. If you have a talent for photography, the last thing you need is to be constrained by your camera.
The FinePix S7000 Zoom's manual modes enable you to exert creative control over aperture, focusing shutter speed and flash. This, combined with the Super EBC 6x optical Fujinon lens, means that even the most ambitious images can become a reality. If you stop at nothing in pursuit of quality, the FinePix S7000 Zoom's RAW mode stores images exactly as they were recorded, pixel by pixel, every time.
Fujifilm's Super CCD HR technology also delivers the renowned Fujifilm colour reproduction, and the sensitive octagonal diodes ensure that images are awash with accurate detail, even in low-light situations.
The FinePix S7000 Zoom offers everything the serious user wants, with a cable release socket, external flash and truly outstanding Super EBC optics.
The camera also boasts VGA digital movie mode, recording at 30 frames per second (fps), with sound. An added bonus is the dual card slot, enabling the use of both xD-Picture Card™ and CompactFlash™/IBM Microdrive™ cards, a combination of formats that will soon be capable of carrying several gigabytes of memory.
FinePix S7000 Zoom: features at a glance
• Compact, SLR-style body shape to give you features and performance without the bulk
• Fourth Generation Super CCD HR sensor with 6.3 million effective pixels, delivering 12 million recorded pixels
• 230,000 electronic viewfinder pixels, for accurate image viewing

• VGA movie recording (30 fps) with sound, providing ultra-smooth movie recording
• High sensitivity settings (up to ISO 800) to allow photography in a wide range of situations, including low light without flash
Adrian Clarke, Fujifilm's Director of Consumer Products, commented, “The tried and trusted design of the FinePix S602 Zoom is reflected in the S7000 Zoom, with the additional benefit of awe-inspiring detail capabilities. Zooming in to check the level of detail captured will be more satisfying with this digital camera - you just keep zooming in and it just keeps giving you more.”
