TomTom claims traffic detection improvements

TomTom has announced that it's rolled out an update to TomTom HD Traffic to version 3.0, claiming that the new version has considerably improved the coverage and accuracy of traffic detection.

The number of jams that HD Traffic 3.0 detects on secondary roads has increased by 75% in France and 40% in the Netherlands and the UK. In Switzerland, there is a 200% increase on coverage on secondary roads. The accuracy of the info - when it starts and ends - has increased, too.

The improvements are thanks to a community of users that submit their tracks to the service. It can self-improve by detecting patterns of traffic jams and predicting them for the future. The new service is available to anyone who subscribes to TomTom's LIVE services.
