SanDisk announces Sansa View video MP3 player

Nano-rivaling MP3 with video to hit the shops soon

SanDisk has launched the "View" MP3 player into its Sansa e200 series that offers PMP-esque full-motion video support.

The pencil-thin Sansa View will come in 8GB and 16GB capacities and will offer music playing, photo viewing, FM tuning, Audible audiobook listening and now, video watching.

SanDisk claims that the View makes it easy to transfer videos from your computer - as well as native support for H.264, WMV and MPEG4 - any formats not supported (such as DivX) will be quickly transcoded by the Sansa Media Converter software.

Unlike the previous widescreen "View" from SanDisk, this new model is described as an "MP3 player at its core". It boasts the backlit scroll wheel familiar to users of the e200 range and a 2.4-inch 320 x 240 resolution display.

Other features include a voice recorder, a microSD/SDHC card slot, compatibility with music subscription services and battery life said to manage 35 hours of audio and 7 hours of video.

UK pricing not yet revealed, but costs in the States are $149 for the 8GB version and $199 for the 16GB, the same price points (although with double the memory) as Apple's new video-capable iPod nanos.
