  • Does TomTom really have a future with this kind of device? I mean it's more likely to stay profitable than their iPhone/Smartphone apps but in the face of competition from Google who will fund their navigation products using search money, does a £100+ device or a £60+ app have a chance? Admittedly Google's Android navigation app isn't coming to Europe immediately, but I can only see it as a matter or when not if.

I for one hope that TomTom and others survive, because as much as you like (or hate) Google, without competition there's little incentive for innovation.

  • Tomtom units are great and easy to use, they all follow a similar menu like Nokia mobile phones.
The Live services do work and cam save you plenty of Fuel, looking at today's cost of fuel and wanting to save fuel too its easy to see why Tomtom has this feature.
Oh yes the Google local searches are great too.

Sometimes you may want it all on one unit, but of course there's the price of power consumption to look at too.

  • This new Tom Tom is absolutely awesome! I have tried many different phone applications like Garmin, Telenav and others, in search for accurate, update-able data, like live traffic and best gas prices...in an attempt to capture the features of my first love, the TomTom 910c that I once owned, stolen from my vehicle while at a conference for my job; needless to say, I have been unable to find the accuracy, simplicity, ease-of-use and quick update that my
TomTom had in any phone application for my BlackBerry Bold. This new TomTom XL Live, with its excellent route guidance and added MapShare feature for easy updating of maps within the TomTom community; would be a great addition to my dash and a reunification with my heart. I gotta say, I love TomTom, figuratively speaking ;)
