  • In 2000, the 3G spectrum was auctioned to the highest bidder, with Vodafone getting largest amount of spectrum. Vodafone at the time said it was essential to have the biggest chunk and kept blindly bidding until they won, with them eventually paying £5.96 Billion pounds.

    So, given these new coverage maps, it seems less likely that they had their customers best interests at heart (getting more spectrum), and it was a blocking tactic to make sure their competitors didn't use it....
