  • I have just been playing with the new CoPilot app that is now on Android. It is half decent, however its still not quite TomTom software.

Since the iPhone is getting the TomTom is it possible it might come to android aswell?

  • Very cool satnav Posted by Wesley Robertson, United Kingdom
  • Amazing piece of kit, does more than my present Smartnav system for which I pay over £200 per year subscription and it is transportable, got to be a good buy. Posted by JON PIERCE, United Kingdom
  • This is one satnav i'lld like to get my hands on.
It looks verry nice and may come in handy for the upcomming holliday trips.

I never had a TomTom before, but may convince me to get one.

  • This is an interesting sat nav. I don't actually own it, but I do work in a shop that sells it, and I just popped it out of the box the other day when it came in. Had a decent play with it before putting it out properly and I have to say they have done some nice things with it in comparison to the previous generation. Certainly the look and feel are improved a bit. The live functions do seem pretty cool, although I kinda question the real impact of them given the sheer cost of maintaining the subscription plus the extra paid for the unit itself. • I recently bough the Tom Tom One IQ Routes - just before this live version came out and I wish I'd waited! The IQ routes is a great feature and has saved me lots of time already. Posted by Dave, United Kingdom
  • With TOM TOM being able to get the entire road system of the country in one tiny, attractive peice of kit - i should ask them to come round to my house and see if they can help my mrs out. She can't get all her shoes into one wardrobe!

I've never owned a sat nave, but have used a few in the past. Navman, Garmin and Tom Tom. If previous models are anything to go by, this will certainly be a winner.

  • Hey All,

I have still got one of the first TomTom devices that came out lol. I havent replaced it because i used my Nokia N95 with garmin. Garmin has an OK interface but TomTom is like Apple, Easy to try and copy but no one can ever get it right! I cant wait for TomTom on the iPhone but i hope its not to much money!

  • I was told by a mystic recently that a "Tom" would enter my life in the near future. He would be European, an intellectual with a high IQ with a penchant for XL sized men. I was told Tom and i would travel extensively together and that in our time with each each other he would get me out of many a jam.

At the time i was quite annoyed at the Mystic's underlying suggestion that i was gay, but it all makes sense now! It's destiny Pocket Lint, creepy destiny!

  • I Want one!
I've been scouring the web for the right TomTom for my visit to Europe in september [France ,Holland, Germany, Austria. Italy?] I Bought a TomTom One UK & RI from QVC a while ago and now find it will not accept the 877MB map I bought online from TomTom. They are refunding it however. Why can't they tell you its capacity or whether it can be upgraded up front. The ads info sometimes does but not always. Looking at reviews gets confusing. The 'live' feature doesn't make it clear whether you have to pay every month for it or whether you can just pay for those months when you need it. Battery life of the unit also seems a bit low at only 2 hours and surely a home charger could be thrown in at the asking price?
    Posted by Glen Taylor, England
  • Glen - the idea is that you charge it through your PC really. The connection to TomTom Home can then also be used to keep the unit up to date. If you don't want to, any normal 5V Mini-USB charger will charge the TomTom (like those from Motorola or BlackBerry phones from the last few years). Posted by chrishall, United Kingdom

  • i've just got this phone and after a mere 5 hours of reading the booklet sort of knew how to use it! mostly trial and error as its unlike any other mobile phone. however saying that it really is GREAT for texting! i've a question to ask anyone out there! 'elp!!! i found a site that i can download FREE games to my phone (very primative games but they are free!) most of them are saying that i don't have enough phone memory - question is - is there any way i can get them saved DIRECTLY to the external memory and NOT to the phone memory. I've looked all through the phone but can't seem to find anything. If anyone knows how to do this or even if it is NOT possible i'd be really grateful. cheers! Posted by sizkar, United Kingdom

  • Nice Screen, display looks alt better than my current one! Posted by Adam M, England
  • At the moment - i do have my own sat nav. It's not a tom tom, it's something i got in a bar once and it's called "the wife".

"the wife" is quite possibly the worst sat nav in the world. It constantly spins round in my car so the map faces the way i'm going. All the time it's doing this, i'm usually travelling in the wrong direction and making her turn it even more.

I had decided that i wanted "the wife" to sound like MR.T or Homer Simpson instead of its usual monotone drone but having pushed all the buttons i could find, "the wife" seemed to get stuck on it's angry voice. After I shook it, "the wife" decided to stop speaking all together and practically turned off.

What really annoys me with "the wife" is that if i don't update it on a regular basis and buy it new add-ons - the only i directions i can get is to the nearest shopping center. Not very good when i'm trying to find a new football ground on a Saturday afternoon.

As you can tell, i'm having real problems with "the wife" and would love to replace her (**Cough** i mean it!) with a new Tom Tom. Maybe then I can leave "the wife" at home where it appears to be at it's happiest.

  • I'd like one of these.
My sat-nav's a few years old, reckons I keep driving through the middle of fields! Will definitely consider this as a replacement.

  • Ok, so all i have to do is leave you my story to be in for a chance to win? Well, for several weeks now i have been looking for a reasonably priced but very effective sat nav for my boyfriend's birthday present. TomTom XL Live IQ he tells me is the one! Yes i know, not much of a birthday surprise seeing as he's already picked out the one he wants. But in my defence, i thought picking a sat nav would be easy, the most features for the least amount of money and with a nice clear screen. How wrong i was! I set out alone many times before finally enlisting the help of my man and spoiling the birthday surprise! Shopping for a sat nav i was stumped, who knew there were so many features, gizmo's and titles to choose from?? Every time i thought i'd picked a suitable one a friendly sales assistant would come along and tell me, 'yeah it's a good model but it hasn't got *insert feature* or *insert gadget*' and would then steer me into the direction of a different one. And all the titles were so similar, i'd decide on one but then walk home and think 'was it the XL, GO LIVE, XL GO, XLT, XL ONE or XL IQ that i picked? I was totally lost...
My boyfriend and I could really use this sat nav, it would take the difficult decision of which type/model to buy out of my hands and also it would help him get us places quicker. You see, not being a fantastic decision maker does not bode well with not being too clever at map reading. Currently if we want to go somewhere new or long distance, i will sit with a map and many sticky notes and try very hard to direct us as he drives. This works fine until we come to large roundabouts where the map shows less turnings off than there actually is, i have no idea where to send him and have to play lucky dip with the exits! Another stumbling block with map reading for me, is the point at which your route takes you onto another page...oh dear. Many times i struggle to find the page continuing and even then, trying to find where you left off from several pages ago...it's not easy! All the while my boyfriend is left directionless while i fumble with the map and look in the index, as we circle a roundabout many times over or i direct us the wrong way by accident. He hates it when i put him on a motorway and then change my mind!
I suppose now i best explain the sticky-notes. We have a system now whereby he will plan a route down to the last detail for me, listing any landmarks he can to make it easier. Then, he will write it down step by step and if i have to change page (more often than not) then they are post-it-noted in the right order for me. Despite all his best efforts though, occasionally when there is a diversion or a road has been changed/modified he finds himself again with me mis-directing him or saying 'help we've gone off course and i can't see where!'.
So as you see, my story is that i have a very loving and patient boyfriend but more often than not we are late, clock many miles more in having gone the wrong way, or we are simply lost; despite his best efforts. This is all down to my poor map reading skills, which bless his heart he has tried to teach me again and again! So, really what i would like to do for him is present him with a sat nav. I think he'd really appreciate it and I know he'd just love to finally get somewhere and be on time for once! So please Pocket-Lint, cut my man a break and let me win him a Sat Nav! Sam x
