  • funny how one of the first things people are taught about lightning is to never hide under a tree, what a silly girl. Posted by skratakh, uk
  • considering the power of a lightning strike, I somehow can't see an iPod headphone cable being able to withstand a strike and last enough to get to the iPod itself.
What probably happened is that the lightning hit the tree and caused the ground current effect whereby all ground near the tree becomes electrically charged and takes out people (and horses/dogs/cats etc) by zapping them from the legs upwards (nature's taser if you will). It's also good for zapping MP3 players on waists.
Seems like she should have got a silicone case off eBay to protect the iPod from both rain and lightning !!

  • Either that, or the bloody ipod attracted the strike in the first place! Posted by Thor, Tiverton
  • A similar thing happened to me. I was on the church roof mending the lighting conductor during a storm and I was hit by lightning. The lightning bolt entered my iPod and luckily went into it's battery and became trapped. That was three years ago and I haven't had to charge it up since, despite using it several hours every day. • Yeah, the first thing was to get in a car.

But if she had her headphones in... would her eyes have lit up? OK so maybe a little tasteless.
