  • Just downloaded it.

Little dissapointed that the bluetooth feature isnt more wide ranging. It wont locate or connect to my N85 mobile phone, which is annoying (I was hoping to be able to bluetooth the pictures from my phone straight to my ipod touch to upload to facebook et al). Doesnt make sense, if the technology is there, why didnt Apple use it?

The rest of the download is ok.

As your article said, £5.95 aint gonna break the bank.

  • A little disappointed to be honest. Like the previous edit, i was hoping of better things from the bluetooth functionality.
I still hope that future apps have added functionality to pare with my bluetooth phone so i can connect to the internet, you know like every other handheld device on the market.
Finally copy and paste has arrived. wooohooo ?

  • Where do you get £5.95 from? It's £5.99.

It will still be a rip off for £5.95 though!

  • Wow. i cant even download an app... stupid update jacked up my ipod..SUCKS BALLS! Posted by Harrison, USA
  • Definitely not happy about paying for the update. Touch users pay just as much money for the hardware as phone users do, and we get less out of the update. Paid updates are not the sort of thing people expect when they fork over hundreds of dollars for something. Posted by daniel, united states
  • Btw....the shake to skip...useful when you are painting etc. and dont wanna get the screen dirty...everyday for me :) Posted by Lil old Me, UK
  • "will allow you to play head-to-head with a friend whether its via Wi-Fi (ie on the otherside of the world) or next to each other. The downsides? Well there aren't any games out that let you do it just yet, and yep you guessed it, 1st gen iPod touch users miss out on this feature too."

Why will 1g iPod Touch owners miss out?

    1g iPT has wifi?

  • Now that i have finnaly got through to the Store to download the update it has screwed up my sync. My touch has no music or video on it now and keeps stuffing up when it tries to sync. What should I do?? Posted by yaron overeem, New Zealand
  • Thanks Kevin, i've changed the copy accordingly. Posted by stuartmiles, United Kingdom
  • Very limited bluetooth functionality is a big big big disappointment. Version 3.0 for touch really is hamstrung compared to what iPhone users get and they pay nothing!! Go figure? I don't think apple disclosed the limitations of the bluetooth implementation adequately. I certainly shelled out the money expecting more. I know many people felt let down by the latest iphone launch and this is the second big anticlimax. With Steve Jobs taking a low profile, I am wondering whether Apple has lost its way? Surely this is more than a one-man show? Posted by DCPImages, Australia
  • I was most excited about the audio pairing although the lack of volume control is very annoying.

Are we getting push email or am i not using it properly?

  • Complete rip off for itouch one users. Free updates on other devices have offered many more improvements than this. While $10 may not break the bank, it still will be better spent over the counter at the Red Wagon. Posted by Richard Bryant, USA
  • Very disappointed with the release of OS 3 on Ipod touch. Surely the bluetooth chip can handle a lot more than just "stereo audio". To my understanding, it is just a matter of adding bluetooth profiles into the firmware. Why bother implementing a PDA like OS if they are just going to define Ipod touch as another Ipod. Hopefully Apple will realize the potential bluetooth device market soon. After all, it is "APPLE" and "IPOD" that we are talking about. Posted by fantasysky, USA
  • Wait for the Jailbreak 3.0 to be released and then hopefully we'll be able to download more Bluetooth applications from cydia, just a pity we have to do this.

I've had copy and paste for months and months thanks to cydia, and if apple moan and don't want us to jailbreak the ipods then they should get their act together and release apps that people want and we wouldn't have to jailbreak.

If the people behing cydia and it's apps can do it then there's no excuse for apple not to.

    Sort it !!

  • I was so excited about Bluetooth - imagining that I would be able to connect through my phone to the internet when not in a wifi hot spot and transfering pictures and data from phones and PCs.

So disappointed to find out it only supports headphones and stuff like that.

The landscape and copy/paste is cool but overall a bit of a damp squib.

  • PLEASE , SKIP...DO NOT install these... rip off .... Posted by steve, usam
  • If Apple really cared about us every time they release a new product and then a month later release a newer and improved version of the same product, the outdated product owners (who would probably be pretty POed) should be able to trade-in for the new one for a fee.
Of course this would never happen as our world is driven by profits and market shares, but it would be nice.

If you live for the moment, just buy it $10 isn't going to kill you in the long run.

  • I feel totally ripped off!!! I was expecting to be able to transfer files between my IMAC/Cell/Ipod what a DISAPPOINTMENT!!! $9.95 Paid 299 for Ipod more most are paying for the iphone now and I feel ripped off.!!!! they should really make it extra clear that the bluetooth is ONLY for headphones. Really disappointed in Apple..will they charge me another $9.95 next year to be able to transfer files?? How much of my money do they need Ipod Touch/2 IMACS / software update on one IMAC/ Mac Book Pro... when will they have enough of my money to let me use the full bluetooth capabilities on my ipod. Pure greed the way I see it Posted by Roger Thomas, USA
  • I like the "Shake to Shuffle', coz I always connect my iPod Touch to my car to enjoy music! So with the "Shake to Shuffle" function, I can easily change or skip the songs, very handy and cool! I like this feature:)
And other new feature are good too! the only problem to me looks like the battery use faster.

  • Paying for an update , that will be the day. The only chance of me every doing anything like this would be if apple got their behinds and released the flashplayer for all to enjoy. Until they release that update I'm holding onto my pennies.

  • It's a complete rip-off and the added bluetooh functionality is a sham. I won't recommend this update to anyone. Not worth $10. Posted by Bing, India
  • If you don't want to pay, go to youtube and type "iPod Touch 3.0 Final for free" its all there and free I did it and it works like a dream. Its better but not worth ten bucks SO GET IT FOR FREE someone leaked it. Posted by Johnny, USA
  • the ipod touch 3.0 update killed my ipod Posted by Noel Stalker, USA
  • Skype app was disabled by the iPod Touch 3.0 upgrade.

A one-time-only message appears: "Apple 3.0 OS does not support Skype."

    No kidding. It *kills* it.

    Anybody know a workaround?

  • Chuck, seems to work fine on our iPod touch in the office. Posted by stuartmiles, United Kingdom
  • 3.0 broke my 3rd-party video cable. It has suddenly become "unsupported hardware".

Also disappointed with lack of Bluetooth connectivity with my cell phone so I could get on the Internet when I wanted/needed to do so.
    Posted by B Bond, USA
  • I have to question why apple made Touch users pay for it and Iphone users not?

And the update is ok, aside from the fact that I paid 10 dollars for all my downloaded apps to not work anymore. Apple does not seem to have noticed this issue, however. So I guess I'm out ten dollars and an Ipod touch. Whoops i guess? That's what I get for trusting Apple...again.

  • Just downloaded it for my Touch 2.0 and everything works fine... I already had a set of Sony Bluetooth headphones that worked with an adapter that sat in the port at the bottom... now I don't need to use the adapter and I've got better range on my headphones from what I've noticed.

It's not an Earth-shattering update but I'm not begruding paying six quid for it...

  • I have found that the update killed the ability to remember where you were in a podcast. Turning it back on restarts the podcast from the beginning and trying to slide the button so that you can go to a particular section no longer works. :( Posted by HKM, US
  • Installed update, now I cannot use Youtube, access email or use Safari. But I can still make calls with Skype. Very strange Posted by RHL, Cymru
  • Found out today that some apps i use wanted to update... once they updated itunes told me i couldnt install them because i need version 3.0 of the software... So sooner or later you will have to go down the route of update if you want the latest apps... its just ripping you off via the back door! Posted by Richard Pepper, United Kingdom
  • Apple sucks. BTW everbody there is a way to get the update for free. Google it and there are many websites that have a process. Later today I will know if any one works. I'm sure not going to pay 10 bucks for a stupid update. Posted by John , USA
  • I just bought my Touch... now Apple is asking me to pay for software that should have been included? And from what I read here, poor software that is likely to disable some if not all of the apps I've downloaded from Apple itself?

A state-of-the-art music player and perhaps phone that cannot transfer files like cheap mobiles costing 1/5 as much???

I buy Apple because of their attention to detail. They must be joking with this one.

  • All these people saying that bluetooth could have been better used by apple should take a look at the app store - there are quite a few apps that allow file transfer via bluetooth to other devices (like phones). Posted by Joe, England
  • i get new apps every day so i got the new update to get the latest apps and it works but i have no clue what the guys at apple were smoking when thay stuck a 5:99£ price tag fore itouch and not iphone

still it wont brake the bank
