  • I'm curios as to why you guys say it's below the Canon 50D and Nikon D300. Seems like it's built as well as both of those and has better weather sealing than either. It doesn't shoot quite as fast, but unlike the Canon 50D it does have a 100% view finder and it has built in shake reduction...which is a huge plus. All-in-all it sounds like the specs and build quality put it at an even playing field with either of those models, and in my personal opinion, built in SR actually puts it in a notch above, and I'm a Nikon shooter...for now. • Nice samples they look ace!

Only thing is this is totaly weather, dust & cold proof and has a metal body. It also has a new 77 segment metering and HD video with a stereo input it also has almost 100% viewfinder! All things you fail to mention which are pretty critical!!!

  • Ed, We haven't mentioned them as this was just a quick gallery to give you a chance to see some test shots.

We actually did a days shooting on the South Bank on Friday with the camera, but unfortunately we had to hand those shots back to Pentax before we could get them up (we are trying to get them back to show you). A case of Pentax not realising at the time of the demo that they would be able to give us the camera to take away.

The reason I say this is because I managed to prove the wheather casing as I got rather wet taking a picture of the water feature by the Hayward Gallery. I'm just about to start our review, so will let you know how we get on.

  • I agree with Eric, what makes this camera below the D300 and the 50D? Is it a necessity that a a camera have to be big and bulky to be in the same class? Posted by Elton, UK
  • Well the only difference I can see is in favour of the Canon 50D and Nikon D300 is fps. The Pentax has FULL weather sealing (including kit lens), inbody SR, inbuilt HDR processing, Horizon compensation and a fe other things. Personally it looks a lot better to me. • Well the K-7 is supposed to be better than the D300 and EOS 50D. It is a newer model, and without a doubt the D400 will probably only give extra MP and video compared to the D300. Still, the K-7 offers in-body SR compared to either model and is cheaper. Looks like a great camera (and I will be getting one ;-)
And for any of you people with CaNikon arrogance, Pentax is backed by Hoya (the largest optics producer in the world) and Samsung (the 2nd largest semiconductor producer ahead of Sony but behind Intel).
