  • This is great news! I already love my T-Mobile G1, and it appears to me that with these new enhancements coming in the "Cupcake" release that my device will be EVERYTHING that I want it to be. It is a great device and I love that the developers have taken the end-user's request into concideration when developing this new release. I am so excited for April to get here now so that I can wake up and see that my phone has the update waiting to be installed. As a past user of the Blackberry Curve® and the iPhone®, I can honestly say that I love G1 way more than I did either of the other devices. While the iPhone® has it's perks, the G1 makes more sense, is organized better, and has the same features for less of a cost. The Android Marked (App Store) is constantly being updated with new apps, and if you have experience with an iPhone®, you can probably find a G1 Android App that does the same thiing, if not better, than the iPhone® app that you are using. I just find that the G1 is much more powerful for realworld applications and I cannot say enough about the design of the phone. Some people say that it is a little bulk, but I like the design. It is a solid design, and the way they have the QWERTY keyboard behind the touch screen is a great design feature; with that said, I will like the addition of the onscreen tough keyboard that will come with the "Cupcake" update. Also, the ability to record video is only going to enhance the fun we already have with the built-in compatability with YouTube and the rest of the Google Application suite. I am exited about this news! Posted by William Sharpless, United States of America

  • Won't get my hopes up. Too many let downs and disappointments to take it seriously. I live in UK and the RC9 update was pants. Posted by Darren, uk
  • Where is the original quote by T-Mobile on this?

Cupcake launch rumors have been going around for several months, so would want to be sure this is legit.

  • I read something, on a forum that it said, it was for UK not the US.. So, what are we suppose to believe? I honestly can't believe any, until official word comes down. Posted by deej, USA
  • Here’s the link I was talking about.. US OR UK since even the rumor can’t keep the story straight, I can’t buy it.

    http://www.androidauthority.com/index.php/2009/03/11/t-mobile-uk-claims-cupcake-is-coming-to-the-g1-in-april/

I really like the end when it say’s at the end.
“No word yet from T-Mobile USA as to whether or not G1 users in states can expect an update in the same time frame.”

Why, would there be options that we were already given, like saving MMS and voice search??

  • Don't believe it until you see it. Developers have not received any pre-release SDKs, which has to happen before a major release.

  • I bet the UK update will not be cupcake, just like we got screwed in the latest update, no latitude or voice search ala US and German versions have. Posted by cirian75, UK
  • I want to get the keyboardless version (ie HTC Magic) on T-Mobile in the UK. It'll be annoying if HTC arranges an exclusive deal for each Android phone model with a different network operator, but it looks like that's their strategy... • This is great news. How do I get my G1 Developer phone on 1.0 updated to the latest firmware? Posted by Victor, USA
  • I believe it since the HTC Magic will probably be released with the Cupcake update already installed. This would make sense. Posted by Scottep, usa
  • I reckon there may be some truth in this...

The G2/Magic will be available exclusively from Vodafone in the UK, thereby giving TMobile it's first Android competitor, hopefully the competition between Vodafone and TMobile will be a good thing as they try and gain one-upmanship over each other with new firmware features?

I've a G1, and whilst it's good to be able to compose emails on it's keyboard, there's a lot of time when having to open the screen to type in a quick Google search is a helluva "faff", also fingers firmly crossed for A2DP.

  • Ok pocket lint your rep is on the line here and i hope it's true.
This why i don't think cupcake will be out for a while for the g1--- It not ready!!!
The video recording is still a mess and you can't get on the market and it's buggy as heck.
It's find on the g2 but g1 still needs work!!

  • It's April and no cupcake. This is getting seriously annoying. Just like T-Mobile to hype something up, not deliver, then say we will fix it. The fact that the devoted customers of T-Mobile who helped make the G-1 a success in the first place are now getting royally screwed loud mouthed braggarts has got me steamed!!
for once can you deliver what you promise. this cupcake update was supposed to be part of the phones intial package when hitting the market in Nov. does anybody remember that.

  • HTC Magic isn't going to hit vodafone customers in the U.K untill May 5th so I would guess it will be sometime after then?
