  • Here in the US, AT&T Mobility provides the GSM voice service portion of iPhone's voice capability. Wonder what they are thinking about this little VOIP development appearing on their partner's (Apple) App Store site? Surely it won't impact intra-US calling as you must pay a monthly flat rate for a certain level of minutes anyway but this may take a little shine off the apple (no pun intended) of the far more profitable and expensive International minutes that likely run over their networks coming off of iPhones. AT&T must not be too happy to see the cannibalization of these far more profitable International voices minutes being substituted into a flat rated data plan that one also is required to pay for (loss of incremental revenue while incurring increased data network transport costs due to the added VOIP load). Perhaps and just perhaps, this may put the pressure on AT&T and other mobile operators to lower their voice rates Internationally so as not to see a larger and more damning exodus to VOIP over time. So much for payback on the handset subsidfization fee, eh!! I for one as an iPhone user will do this for my International calls once I dowenload Truphone. Goodluck ATT holding onto that one!!!
