A photo taken at a recent Light & Land tour by Clive Minnitt

Light & Land has announced its tour dates for 2009, and has added a number of new locations to range of photographic trips.

Founder of Light & Land Charlie Waite, will be leading brand new tours to Kerala in India during November 2009. It's a 12-day tour that begins in Cochin, the ancient gateway to Kerala with its historic Jewish quarter, and then moves on to the rolling hills and tea plantations of Munnar.

You'll also pay a visit to the Periyar Tiger reserve where you'll get the opportunity to see all sorts of wildlife including elephants and tigers, as well as spend a couple of days cruising on a traditional houseboat.

The tour finishes with two nights at the Coconut Lagoon Resort, rated amongst the top 10 heritage hotels in the world.

There’s also a new trip to Australia which will visit Kakadu National Park for plenty of photo ops. The tour uses 4-wheel-drives to reach remote and less visited areas of this region, with highlights including the Koolpin Gorge, only accessible by special permit, and nearby Nourlangie Rock which has some of the best aboriginal art galleries in Kakadu.

The group also has the rare chance to spend three nights in the Mount Borradaile area, a remote, wilderness environment.

Charlie Waite said: "Light & Land is built upon the reputation and unique ability of a select group of world class photographers who are passionate about their craft of photography.

"We all share the common objective of conveying this passion, coupled with technical knowledge and specialist ‘know-how’, to each and every person on our trips."

Now with over 50 tours planned for next year, you can also get snapping in a one day UK workshop, on a weekend in the Lake District or on a trek across the Namib Desert.

Tours which are coming up in 2009 include:

February - Venice, Winter in Glencoe

March - West Cornwall, Andalucia

May - Snowdonia, Tuscany, Eigg

June - Dolomites, Exmoor, Knoydart, Santorini

July Provence

Head over to the Ligh & Land website for a full tour list and more details.

Apple patents remote iTunes access via iPhone. Audio, Apple, iTunes, iPhone 0

Apple could in the future allow iPhone and iPod touch users to stream music from their home iTunes library so they could listen to their favourite music on the go.

The move, discovered by AppleInsider via a patent application, could mean that Apple could make the devices not only cheaper, but smaller as all the users songs would be stored remotely in their home rather than the device in their hand.

"New versions iTunes and the iPhone Software could theoretically eliminate this problem by syncing only the metadata -- or tiny files containing the barebones attributes of each media item or playlist but not the content itself -- from a user's iTunes library to their portable devices," the patent says.

At present, iPhone or iPod touch owners must selectively sync content from their Mac or PC's iTunes library limiting the amount of tracks you can take with you.

What Apple is proposing though, is that mobile device owners could instead access their entire collection over Wi-Fi or cellular networks.

Apple currently offers a similar technology for its Airport Express networking device and Apple TV, however those are restricted to only working within the same Wi-Fi network rather than remotely over the internet or mobile networks.

As with all patent applications, this might never see the light of day.

We will keep you posted.

Leaf introduces 56-megapixel AFi 10 camera. DSLRcameras

Its been nearly a month since Hasselblad introduced its whopping 50-megapixel camera, with its equally whopping price tag of $37,000.

But already, the Hasselblad has been out-pixelled by the Leaf AFi 10. Weighing in at 56 megapixels, the Leaf AFi 10 medium format camera features a 56x36mm True Wide Frame that delivers full resolution across the entire width of the camera’s 6x6 sensor area.

The Leaf AFi uses Verto internal sensor rotation technology which means you don't have to turn the camera when moving between landscape and portrait shots, allowing you to capture 56mm resolution in both orientations.

The AFi 10 captures images at about 1 second per frame and has the ability to shoot up to ISO800. The Hasselblad does pip it to the post with price though, as the AFi 10 checks in at a eye-watering $43,675. Better get saving...

Sources within Apple have confirmed to Pocket-lint that the company will not be making an announcement at IFA 2007 in Berlin, Germany this week.

The source also confirmed that an announcement would not be made at the company's 5 September event next week about when the iPhone will be available in the UK.

The news scuppers rumours by the FT newspaper in London earlier in the month that the company would jointly announce with T-Mobile, O2 and Orange their plans at the consumer electronics show.

According to sources within the Californian company, the rumours started due to a series of briefings planned in Berlin to promote the company's new iMac lines.

Kia has released the second preview image of the Pro-cee’d, the third model in the cee’d family of cars designed for Europe and made in Slovakia.

"We wanted to make Pro-cee’d as ‘sporty’ as cee’d could possibly be, while still remaining a member of our cee’d family", said Gregory Guillaume, chief designer at Kia Motors Europe.

"The three-door Kia Pro-cee’d is such a comprehensive re-working of the cee’d design theme that only the bonnet and the front wing panels are carried over from the five-door model. All other exterior panels are new and exclusive to this car."

The new Pro-cee’d three-door makes its world premiere at this year’s Frankfurt International Motor Show in September and will go on sale across Europe in early 2008.

Harman Kardon promise its new satnav will drive you, play to you and be lighter for you.

Guide + Play is a pocket-sized device combining a navigation system for Western Europe with a MP3 player. It features built-in video player for those waiting for a mechanic on the motorway, playing all the relevant digital files.

The thing Harman Kardon would like you to know about this device that stands out from the rest is it is sleek and stylish, but little different to most satnav units.

It hosts a 4-inch touchscreen LCD display with high-res 2D and 3D maps, All maps are pre-installed on an internal 2GB Flash memory meaning you are ready to go as soon as you turn it on, which is a good thing at least.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like a break through, although Harman Kardon products tend to be good-looking and reliable.

The Harman Kardon Guide + Play will be available in the shops from May 2007 at a suggested retail price of £345.

Fancy toilet plays music and lights up the night. Gadgets, Toilet, Bathroom gadgets, Inax, Home And Kitchen, Photos 0

Fancy a toilet with a difference, or a toilet that does things to keep you occupied while on the throne - here is the latest Japanese invention.

Japanese toilet manufacturer Inax has just released their 2007 Satis Asteo Washlet toilet. The new throne for your home is moving on to include the most fashionable electronics.

The toilet has an SD card, pre-loaded with Bach, Chopin and Mendelsohn. A sensor activates the tunes when you use the toilet, and can drown out the sounds of any unpleasant expulsions.

It's been given a makeover with a smoothly-designed exterior of the basin so it is easy to clean, absent of the dust- and grime-collecting nooks and crannies present in many standard toilets.

Another sensor figures out whether you're going to need the seat up or down and motorises it into the appropriate position. After you leave, it automatically places the seat in the down position if it was up, very similar to the Future Toliet Company's recent design.

Plus, if you get lost in the dark or cannot see the basin for peeing, a nightlight in the bowl helps guide you during those early morning or drunkard emergencies. However this may make things worse if you've eaten something dodgy.

Tirminal launches free file transfer service. Software, Online, Utilities Software, Tirminal 0

Those of you used to trying to send large files to people know what a pain it is. Even a zipped file can take ages to send via email, even if you're just trying to send photos to a friend.

There's a new file transfer solution on the block, however, and it's name is Tirminal.

Tirminal is free and offers transfers of unlimited amounts of data, without the recipient ever having to download a client or application.

You, as the sender, simply download a small application, and then drag and drop files into it to send data. The receiver then receives a link that opens in their browser, and can pick and choose which files to download.

"With our help, all our server does is create the 'hand shake' for the communications stream", Simon Grunfeld, the Director of Business Development, explains.

"We facilitate the communication transfer so that the sender doesn't need to forward a port, or mess with their firewall."

"We don't store information on our server (like FTP servers do), so there's no limitation on the size of the files or folders."

"So far, I think the biggest file anyone had sent was in the range of 24GB - we can tell that via the bandwidth usage on our server."

Uploads and downloads are quick and easy, and for the corporate market, Tirminal even allows for customisation of templates, so that universities and colleges, for example, can use it as their own web transfer service.

Future features that Tirminal is working on include website hosting, streaming media, off-site backup and storage, and a roaming edition with mobile support.

At the moment, the only drawback is that only Windows users can send files, although Mac and Linux users can download through Tirminal. Linux and Mac versions are being planned and will be up in 3 to 6 months.

There's a new monster camera on the block, and it's from a relative unknown, BetterLight.

The company has been showcasing the Super10K-HS, a digital back for large-format cameras that boasts a whopping 416Mp.

You read correctly. Four-hundred and sixteen megapixels.

The scanning back creates images at 10,200 x 13,600 pixels, and allows output of originals at 34 x 45 inches at 300dpi.

You better have it hooked up to a pretty big computer - one files weighs in at 794MB.

So who will use this monster? It's designed for the art reproduction market as well as institutions making archival copies.

The price? A cool $22,995, which isn't that bad if you consider that medium format backs with resolutions just over 20MP where going for that when they first came out.

Tesco have released an interesting new gizmo that should make it easier for people to adopt VoIP calling.

The Tesco Internet Phone Adapter converts a traditional landline handset to making calls over the Internet instead of over a telephone line.

It means you can essentially create a second phone line without paying for addition line rental, and make lower-cost calling without having your computer on.

Tesco's VoIP plan includes international calls to 25 countries for 2p a minute, and calls to UK mobiles for 10p a minute.

If you sign up for Extra, you can make calls for 1p a minute to UK landlines if you top up by £5 a month or more.

The Adapter packs costs £50 in Tesco, and contains £5 airtime.

Transformers fans, a treat for you: the Optimus Prime Battle Rig Plaster.

Although it looks like an innocent-enough truck, and a rather small one at that, it turns, with a few quick flicks of the wrist, into a dart firing tank-like machine.

We thought you'd enjoy the chance to feast your eyes on them.

It costs £30 from Hasbro.

Early Daylight Savings time shift causes problems. Software, PC software, Operating Systems, Microsoft, Vista, iTunes 0

Daylight savings time is moving earlier in the US and some other countries, proving a headache for IT professionals and businesses.

With less than a year to fix calendars and timers, it's been a struggle to get it done on time for this weekend's time shift.

Many computers and electronic devices haven't been automatically updated because they can't be; this means that people who rely on electronic calendars and reminders may find themselves in a bit of a muddle.

An insider told Pocket-lint, "With Y2K we had five years to plan and get it fixed. With this, we've had just 11 months".

Banks who haven't had their systems fixed may make late payments, while travel companies may have trouble with arrival and departure times.

Microsoft released a Windows update back in November that should prompt the operating system to change automatically; patches are also available for manual download.

Whatever problems do occur should right themselves three weeks after the shift, at the time when the change usually occurs.

Google has added photos to Google Maps local search, to make destinations easier to spot.

Once businesses get their photos up on the site, you'll be able to view a map along with images of a storefront or road.

This can be immensely helpful if you're trying to spot a store or restaurant on a busy street.

"Google Maps also includes pictures of buildings storefronts signs, and logos", writes Jess Lee, Product Manager for Google Maps, on the Google Blog.

At the moment, photos will understandably not be found that often, as it will take a while for businesses to cotton on to this new marketing tool.

In related news, Google has tweaked Picasa Web Albums, which now offers 1GB of free storage. It's also made albums more easier to link to from emails or website by provide code on the page.

It features an intelligent charging system that you can program to "charge-off" so that you can use it and let it drain ready for a complete recharge.

Arcam also claims that sound quality is better when listening to music running off the iPod battery alone, without charging.

The rDock includes a pre-amp for iPod with high performance op-amps and low noise, double-regulated power supplies.

When integrated with the Arcam Solo, the iPod can be controlled with the remote, and music information will be shown on the Solo's front-panel display.

In addition to the DSLR camera’s built-in flash, the Alpha100 system includes two dedicated Alpha external flash guns, a twin macro flash kit and ring light for still lifes and other close-up subjects.

Of course the device will work with other models from other manufacturers.

Turkey is under a YouTube blackout after one of its courts banned it for posting a video insulting Turkishness.

Prosecutors to the court recommended the total ban after a video appeared that insulted the founder of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kema Ataturk, calling him and all Turks homosexuals.

Insulting Ataturk is a criminal offense in Turkey.

Turk Telekom, the largest internet provider in Turkey, immediately enforced the ban. "We are not in the position of saying that what YouTube did was an insult, that it was right or wrong", Paul Doany, Turk Telekom's CEO told a Turkish news agency.

"A court decision was proposed to us, and we are doing what that court decision says."

Although the offending video has been removed from the site, and the court and Turk Telekom have said that they will restore access as soon as the video has been taken down, so far the site remains blocked.

The law that says that insulting Turkishness is a crime has been criticised by the EU, so much so that if it's not changed, it may influence the decision over Turkey's becoming part of the Union.

Epson has launched two new projectors mainly designed for business use with extra brightness for viewing in light rooms.

The EMP 1810 and EMP 1815 both features 3500 lumens of light, as well as XGA resolution, and a 1.6x zoom lens.

Designed for easy maintenance, the lamp and filter can be replaced quickly even if the projector is on the ceiling.

Both projectors also include Epson's quick set-up feature; you simply point the projector at the screen, press a button, and the projector will automatically resize the projected image to fit inside the screen.

The EMP 1815 differentiates itself from the EMP 1810 with wired and wireless networking for integration on a business network. It also features USB connectivity and a CF card slot.

The network connection allows EMP 1815 to access information directly, so that files can be changed on the CF card directly.

Both devices will create a 60-inch screen from 1.8m away.

The EMP 1810, which will be available for around £1800 weighs 2.9kg, while the 1815, which will cost around £150 more, weights 3.1kg.
