    Packard Bell dot m/a notebook

3.5 An AMD netbook (ish) 31 August 2009 10:06 GMT
    The Good
Screen resolution, software bundle, 3G modem option
    The Bad
Keyboard not great, battery life, screen reflection (for mobile use)
    Verdict
Closer to a low-powered notebook than a netbook, the dot m/a will suit those looking for a compact machine for general low demand computing tasks
  • Apple OS X Snow Leopard - Mac. Software, Mac software, Apple, Snow Leopard, Operating Systems 0

Apple OS X Snow Leopard - Mac

4.5 New OS or just an update? 28 August 2009 21:46 GMT
    The Good
Speed improvements in core features, price, some neat tweaks
    The Bad
Some might question having to pay for it, needs third party application updates for full benefits to come through
    Verdict
We'd like to think that Apple was in the position with Leopard to apply an "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality and that's what Snow Leopard feels like. It makes Leopard run like you think it should be running. For us, that's enough, we like the changes, but we’ll forgive the cynics who see this as a simple update

    The Damned United - DVD

3.0 Beautiful game. Beautiful people? 28 August 2009 12:07 GMT
    The Good
It’s beautifully filmed and well cast
    The Bad
Moments in the script let the whole thing down, undermining the gravitas of the entire story
    Verdict
The Damned United has lost much of the compelling sadness that undermines the novel but it’s still solid viewing for anyone who has a soft spot for the big man

    The Good
Eco credentials, easy to use, basic and simple
    The Bad
QWERTY keyboard hard to use, no Wi-Fi
    Verdict
The Samsung Reclaim for us is a step in the right direction, but when push comes to shove, it's unlikely to bend you away from the handset you've got currently

    The Bad
Address searching is lacking, contact integration doesn't work well, draws heavily on battery
    Verdict
For some the clear driving instructions will be worth the cost and the convenience of having navigation all in one device. For others, the poor performance of some features might make FoxNav a little disappointing

    The Good

    The Bad
Build quality not brilliant, limited file support
    Verdict
Whilst we aren't entirely sold on the build quality, we like the practicality of the swivel screen design and the considerate steps taken by Philips to make the PET744 user friendly

    Klipsch Image S4 headphones

    4.0 Solid step-up stereo sound 25 August 2009 16:00 GMT
    The Good
Decent sounding series of bangs for your buck
    The Bad
Not wonderful high end notes and little in the way of presentation
    Verdict
A great set of 'phones for the cash but a step-up in sound quality is only a few quid round the corner
  • Nikon D3000 DSLR camera . Cameras, DSLR cameras, Nikon, Nikon D3000, 10 megapixels 0

    Nikon D3000 DSLR camera

    4.0 Does Nikon's new entry-level DLSR steal the limelight? 25 August 2009 12:00 GMT
    The Good
Small, lightweight yet sturdy construction, reliable results and responsive in operation, intuitive to use with or without Intelligent Guide deployed
    The Bad
No Live View option, no movies of any description, no built-in anti-shake
    Verdict
Though some may find Nikon’s implementation of an on-board help guide with large print text and bright graphics on the D3000 patronising, there’s no denying it’s a clever way to widen its traditionally specialist user base and attract new converts – even if we did miss use of Live View when attempting shots from otherwise tricky angles on occasion

  • Olympus Mju 7010 digital camera . Cameras, Compact cameras, Olympus, Digital cameras, 12 megapixels, Olympus Mju 7010 0

    Olympus Mju 7010 digital camera

3.0 Is this 12MP pocket snapper truly magical? 24 August 2009 19:41 GMT
    The Good
User friendly operation, solid construction, portably pocket sized, quick and responsive for the most part
    The Bad
Still images are flat and dull in appearance straight out of the camera (if not utilising magic effects filters), with loss of focus towards frame edges when shooting at maximum wide angle. No HD movies, which seems amiss when similarly priced rivals are offering this
    Verdict
The Mju 7010 misses out on the latest must-have of HD video, but makes up in part by incorporating a 7x optical zoom and fun effects filters. Shame then that image quality is below par and in many other respects this model feels simply average

    The Good
Larger "92%" keyboard, multi-function mouse touch pad, new netbook design
    The Bad
Lower than expected battery life on this SKU, processor too low powered for HD video
    Verdict
The redesigned netbook is a winner and will attract new customers who previously were put off by netbooks bulkier cheap looking design
  • Ricoh GR Digital Mk III digital camera. Cameras, Compact cameras, Digital cameras, Ricoh, 10 megapixels, Ricoh GR Digital Mk III 0

Ricoh GR Digital Mk III digital camera

    4.5 Is this the enthusiast's compact? 21 August 2009 16:37 GMT
    The Good
Superb magnesium-alloy build, compact and lightweight, excellent handling, great image quality, excellent lens, comprehensive level of specification
    The Bad
Large screen hampered in brighter conditions - viewing becomes difficult, no built-in optical viewfinder, pop-up flash position means errant fingers can inadvertently hinder it, Mode dial’s lock fiddly to use
    Verdict
The Ricoh GR Digital Mk III follows on from the popular GR Mk I and Mk II where many professional and enthusiast snappers had found a quality compact “home”. The new Mk III has a new, faster, lens, much improved resolution LCD and new image engine and has great image quality pouring from every pixel

    The Bad

    Verdict
Savvy, cool, funny, hugely likable and utterly memorable, In The Loop is must-viewing for anybody with even the vaguest passing interest in Britcoms
  • Emtec Movie Cube P800 . Home Cinema, Storage, EMTEC, Hardware, Freeview, Emtec Movie Cube P800, Media streaming 0

    Emtec Movie Cube P800

2.0 Can Emtec connect your TV? 21 August 2009 9:44 GMT
    The Good
Analogue and Digital Tuners, lots of output options and cables provided, support for network, SD and external drives, ample 250GB of storage, easily modified thanks to open Linux shell
    The Bad
Slow and unresponsive, security concerns with open Linux shell, no record option in EPG, no support for WMV, frustrating to use
    Verdict
The Emtec Movie Cube P800 is great on paper and appears to offer great value for money. The reality is that it is slow, poorly designed and incredibly frustrating to use

Impressive audio quality and interesting design is prevented from lofty aims by offering more than the screen size can really handle

    The Good
Super Long battery life, light, slim design to the handset, Inner Circle email function
    The Bad
Very basic version of Windows Mobile, not enough space between keys
    Verdict
Although it’s not pitched at the consumer world, more and more people need the use of a decent QWERTY keyboard phone and at decent price – the HTC Snap could very well be that handset

4.0 Can your phone help you home? 19 August 2009 12:00 GMT
    The Good
Easy to use, plenty of POI, plenty of route options
    The Bad
Won't just give you a list of instructions for when the iPhone GPS fails (which it will), can't do much with the phone while in use
    Verdict
The Navigon MobileNavigator keeps up its end of the bargain with a simple to use software application that will get you from A to B with the minimal of fuss
