Valkyrie - DVD
Does this movie bomb?
5 June 2009 12:00 GMT
- The Good
- Bill Nighy’s performance - he superbly sums up the internal struggle of those committing a crime in the pursuit of a greater good
- The Bad
- Keeping a handle on the accents would have been a good idea, as we get American Nazis, British Nazis and even the odd German Nazi
- Verdict
- Neither as emotive or as action-packed as it perhaps could have been, Valkyrie is solid entertainment, if perhaps sadly not as inspiring as it could have been
- Price
- £19.99

Toshiba 500GB USB HDDR500E03E external hard drive
Good looks and brains to match?
5 June 2009 10:00 GMT
- The Good
- Design looks funky, transfer speed is fast
- The Bad
- It seems you pay a premium for the design
- Verdict
- That funky "monochrome" design will add a premium to the final bill, a £50 premium, which to us seems a bit steep as it's merely a paint job
- Price
- £120

Red Faction Guerrilla - Xbox 360
Smashing?
5 June 2009 9:00 GMT
- The Good
- Open style of play, fun Wrecking Crew and online modes, blowing stuff up
- The Bad
- Can get repetitive, not being able to save at any location can get tedious
- Verdict
- The story might not be the most engaging, but at least you can take yourself off and blow some stuff up when you get bored
- Price
- £44.99

Logitech G9 Laser Mouse
Mighty mouse for gamers?
4 June 2009 16:10 GMT
- The Good
- Customisable grips and weights, comfortable, great scroll wheel
- The Bad
- Bulky and not the prettiest mouse around
- Verdict
- Fantastic for serious gamers, but not really something you'd buy your mum
- Price
- £40
-
Canon EOS 500D DSLR camera
Does HD video sweeten the package?
4 June 2009 12:00 GMT
- The Good
- Image quality, HD video capture (with limitations), display (visually), CA good for beginners
- The Bad
- Lack of display articulation, video capture lacks controls, no external mic option
- Verdict
- The still image performance is compelling but we can't help but feel the video is something of a novelty
- Price
- £679 (with 18-55 kit lens)
-
Panasonic DMR-BS850 Freesat Blu-ray recorder
Pray silence for the UK's first Blu-ray recorder
4 June 2009 9:00 GMT
- The Good
- Astounding feature list, versatility and ease of use, compressed high-def recordings, Blu-ray pictures, bitstream recording
- The Bad
- Can’t copy to USB, limited Freesat high-def content, copy restrictions on HD content, price
- Verdict
- The DMR-BS850 is the grand daddy of digital recorders - historic, groundbreaking and downright brilliant
- Price
- £1000

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T90 digital camera
Do good things come in small packages?
3 June 2009 16:20 GMT
- The Good
- Solid feel build, small form factor, large-ish LCD, HD movies
- The Bad
- Video isn’t full HD, no HDMI out, screen can get confusingly packed out with info at times
- Verdict
- Though priced at a premium, for those who value both style and substance the T90 makes for a happy compromise, if no great advancement from previous Cyber-shots
- Price
- £289

Virtua Tennis 2009 - Xbox 360
New balls please
3 June 2009 12:00 GMT
- The Good
- So much fun in multiplayer, easy to pick up and play, lots of depth to discover
- The Bad
- Players look weird, frequent loading screens are a huge irritant
- Verdict
- It might be for social gamers, but this is one of the very best if you like your living room jam packed
- Price
- £44.99

Asus Eee PC T91 notebook
The tablet netbook touches down
3 June 2009 9:00 GMT
- The Good
- Netbook computer and tablet computer in one, touchscreen abilities, thinnest 8.9-inch netbook around
- The Bad
- Might be seen as gimmicky by some, screen is rather loose and not fixed down in tablet mode
- Verdict
- As an entirely new concept in netbooks it’s a brave move for Asus to combine a touchscreen portable computer and a tablet-based PC together. On the other hand, we found the T91 very useful and ideally suited as a tablet PC when compared to the much larger screened versions of yesteryear
- Price
- £430

Toshiba Camileo S10 camcorder
HD Ready, aim, fire!
2 June 2009 16:00 GMT
- The Good
- Bright outdoor HD video, small size, expandable storage
- The Bad
- Focusing, slow and limited zoom, some blur
- Verdict
- It compares reasonably well to other pocket camcorders on the market, but the S10 remains resolutely at the budget end of camcorders despite its high-definition ambitions
- Price
- £150
-
Canon EOS 5D Mk II DSLR camera
Stunning serious semi-pro snapper?
2 June 2009 12:00 GMT
- The Good
- Excellent image quality, good ergonomics and build, menu system, comprehensive feature set and customisability, info panel, responsive, HD movie capture
- The Bad
- Joystick and Quick Dial take getting used to; slight underexposure issues, Mode dial easy to inadvertently jog, battery and memory card slot covers are flimsy, no built-in flash unit
- Verdict
- Canon’s EOS 5D Mk II refreshes the original 5D in light of stiff competition. The feature-rich 5D Mk II boasts an in-vogue and rather superb 1080p HD movie mode but looks very pricey
- Price
- £3049 (RRP body and 24-105mm F4 L kit lens used in this test)

Do I make myself clear? Crystal 2 June 2009 9:00 GMT- The Good
- The keypad doubles as a trackpad, 8 megapixel camera, S-Class interface
- The Bad
- Why it is transparent we have no idea, accelerometer was slow but that could be the prototype
- Verdict
- A clever feature-packed phone, we just can't work out why it's transparent
- Price
- £Dependent on contract
-

- The Bad

- Price
- £Dependent on contract
-

Can Pentax steal the mid-range show? 1 June 2009 12:30 GMT- The Good
- Weatherproof casing, 720p video mode, plenty of features, plenty of buttons, mic-in socket, HDMI support
- The Bad
- No 1080p movie mode, ISO limited to 6400
- Verdict
- Compared to the D300 and the 50D we would have to say you get a more feature-packed camera, something that took us a little by surprise
- Price
- £1199.99
-
Sony VAIO VGN-Z21ZN/X notebook
Is Sony's Z-series the ultimate ultraportable?
1 June 2009 9:00 GMT
- The Good
- All-day battery life, desktop-replacement performance, exotic materials
- The Bad
- One of the most expensive laptops currently on sale
- Verdict
- If you’re in the market for a high-end ultraportable, nothing else on the market can offer the Z-series’ blend of power, portability and features. It’s staggeringly expensive, but it’s also amazingly accomplished
- Price
- £2499
