Optoma launches Pico PK102 projector

Portable lightbox with 4GB of memory

Optoma has launched a follow-up to its rather popular Pico PK101 projector. The tiny device has been upgraded in several ways from its older brother, and as a result now bears a PK102 namebadge.

It now contains 4GB of internal memory, and can plug straight into a laptop's VGA connection. It's battery operated, which should last for about 1.5 hours, and plays what Optoma claims is "virtually all media formats". That includes avi, wmv, mov, mp4, flv, jpg, ppt and pptx. It beams an image of up to 60-inches diagonally, and has a 1000:1 contrast ratio.

It weighs 115g and measures 50 x 103 x 15mm, which probably qualifies it as pocket-sized. Its bulb should last 20,000 hours before it needs replacing, but Optoma won't say exactly how many lumens it pumps out. We therefore expect it's rated somewhere around "not much". Be prepared to close your curtains.

The Optoma Pico PK102 will show up in UK shops from April 2010, costing about £230.
